Transportation and Busses

Dianna Cowden, Transportation Director

206 S. Spruce
Buffalo, MO 65622

When we have inclement weather and school is canceled, the Dallas County R-1 School District contacts the following stations to report school closings: KTTS Radio, KYOO Radio- Bolivar, KJEL Radio- Lebanon, KY-3 and KOLR-10 television stations. In addition the school district will contact families via the AlertNow phone notification system if we have current phone numbers within the school district student database.  If you have concerns about your bus route, or if you need to get a message to your driver about your road or driveway, feel free to contact the Transportation Department at (417) 345-2899. We encourage the bus drivers to do the same. We have “snow routes” in place as the need arises, however we try to cover as much of a route, as possible, in inclement weather. As always our goal is to transport all students as safely as possible.

Sincerely,
Dianna Cowden
Transportation Director, 345-2899

Dallas County Schools
Recognized For Bus Safety
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced that the Dallas County R-I School District transportation department has received the states Total Fleet Excellence Award for outstanding bus fleet safety.  The Total Fleet Excellence Award is given only to the school districts in the state with the highest record of safe bus inspections.  For the 2009 school year, 95.24% of school bus inspections of Dallas County R-I school buses made by the Highway Patrol received perfect inspections compared to a statewide average of 86%.  Only 4.76% of inspections of Dallas County buses needed minor repairs which range from cracked light housings or lights that were not working.  Of those not receiving a perfect inspection, all were repaired within a matter of minutes.  According to Captain David Perkins of the Missouri Highway Patrol, the award for Dallas County Schools recognizes the school district for the "highest quality of transportation service to Missouri’s school children".  The award is especially significant due to the size of the Dallas County R-I School District and the amount of miles traveled by the school busses each day.

Did you know?

Each school day our busses travel 2323 miles per day to pick up students in the district. This would be equal to driving from Buffalo, Missouri to New York City and back every day.

Each school year our busses travel 485,000 miles. This would be equal to a single bus driving to the moon and back every year.

Each month the school district purchases 7,200 gallons of diesel fuel or approximately 75,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year which is equal to the amount of water held in the Buffalo water tower, north of the square.
